Cork YMCA has enjoyed a long-standing if occasional relationship with the UCJ of Ecuador. It started with a brief familiarisation in 1997 when the Gen Sec. Gef Dickson visited Ecuador as part of a delegation of European Youth Organisations. Two years ago contact was renewed when Nuria Madrono, Wot! project worker, joined the National Council of YMCAs International Conflict Transformation Programme and did her assignment with the UCJ of Ecuador, one of the partner YMCAs on the Programme.

...Projects

International Conflict Resoluton Course International training with Colleagues of Sri Lanka, Ecuador, Liberia, Kosovo and Ireland. The issues dealt with were Equity, Diversity, Interdependence. It was a great opportunity to discuss different realities in the different countries and from different perspectives. Nuria's study trips were to Ecuador and Sri Lanka. Her visit Included visits and work in different projects (QUITO National Office, Quito Centre, Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Portoviejo) plus attendance to a two week International Seminar in Local Development with citizens 'participation. She was really impressed by our colleagues' efficiency despite the lack of resources because of the poverty and the political instability in the country.
