DÍON is an Independent Living skills Course
for young people in Care
or seeking to set up independently

Y Care
E.A.Y.

The course usually runs for 10 weeks and contains some of the following elements
depending on the needs of each group:

budgeting

personal health

leisure and boredom

benefits and support services,

nutrition and food

Personal support is also provided after the actual course as young people make the transition
to living on their own.

The Díon Project has been working in conjunction with the Cork Foyer to provide a rolling 14/15 week programme for residents to better equip them for life after the Foyer. In addition it is planned to offer a café/ drop-in facility for users to provide a social outlet and an opportunity to make friends. Much work is done on an individualised basis by way of maintaining long-term contact and offering an out-of-hours service.

Contact: John Russell at the YMCA.

YOUTH CAFÉ

In Spring 2009 the project spearheaded a new Youth Café venture for participants & friends. It is basically a place to chill & to make friends: further down the road youth initiated projects will feature. There is a strong Youth Committee running the café & taking part in our new Skills,Leadership, Service training course (based on our former Youth in Management course)
